Our trip will focus on habitat type and distribution and will include a substantial amount of hiking (up to 3.5 miles). Helens including the Hummocks trail, Coldwater Lake and the Boundary Trail. We will visit some of the best and most accessible birding sites on the north side of Mount St. Join us as we tour the diverse mosaic of habitats created by the 1980 eruption and learn about where to see some of Mount St. Participants must arrange their own transportation. Note: Transportation to this class will not be arranged by Seattle Audubon. May In-Person Field Class: Birding at Mount St. (Participants are welcome to join just the presentation at Klondike at 10am, just the outing in Occidental Square at 11am, or both) Come as you are: no prior knowledge, experience, or equipment expected. This gentle program is designed for anyone interested in learning about the urban bird species that share our city, and/or spending an hour in a park. What makes them so successful as city birds? What can they teach us about the nature of cities? During this program hosted by Seattle Audubon and the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, we will learn about common urban bird species, then explore the urban habitat of Occidental Park in search of the most abundant birds in town. Pigeons, crows, gulls-they are so familiar and so numerous in Pioneer Square that we may pay them little mind.
